Tips to Appeal Loss of Aid Due to SAP
If you plan to appeal, please follow the instructions on the Loss of Aid Appeal page. Part of the appeal includes written explanations about your mitigating circumstance (what led to you losing your aid) and corrective actions (what you will do to eliminate your mitigating circumstance). You must provide supporting documents for both.
Supporting Documents
The documents you submit with your appeal must support your written explanation and will be reviewed by the committee. If these documents do not support your claim, your appeal will not be approved. Examples of acceptable documents include, but are not limited to, a letter from physician or therapist, obituary or funeral program for relative, communication with advisor/professor, intent to graduate, evidence of tutoring, etc.
Note: The documents you provide must be authentic. If we find that any information is falsified, your appeal will not be approved, and it may result in disciplinary action.
Confidentiality
Our committee is required to report incidents of sexual violence or sexual harassment to the Title IX Office. Students can receive confidential support through the Counseling Center.
Regaining Eligibility for Financial Aid
Appeals are not guaranteed to give you eligibility for aid. If your appeal is denied, the committee will include a reason for the denial and what you must do to meet SAP. Your reason for not meeting SAP and the minimum requirement to become eligible for financial aid again will also be included in your email notification. The requirements are also listed in our SAP Policies, found here.
If you enroll and pay for classes without financial aid and demonstrate progress towards meeting SAP, you can reappeal to be considered for financial aid. Sitting out for an enrollment period is not enough to re-establish eligibility. We encourage you to take full advantage of the resources linked above to help you during this process. There are also loan options to help cover costs while you are working towards meeting SAP. Certain alternative loans may not require meeting SAP for you to qualify. You can learn more about this option on our Loans webpage.
