Grants
Grants are gift aid awarded to students who meet federal, state, and/or university requirements. The state of Texas provides the Tuition Equalization Grant for its qualified residents.
Federal Grants
You must complete a FAFSA each academic year in which you want to be considered for each of these grant programs. If you were selected for verification, this aid will not credit to your semester bill until the verification process is completed.
Eligibility: Awarded to undergraduate students who file the FAFSA and qualify based on the FAFSA results. Beginning in the 2026-2027 aid year, students may be ineligible for a Pell Grant if the full cost of attendance is covered with non-federal grants and scholarships or, if the student’s Student Aid Index (SAI) is greater than twice the maximum Pell Grant.
Formula: Baylor University qualifies for, and utilizes, Formula One to calculate Pell grants. Undergraduate programs are offered in semester, quarter or trimester terms, measure progress in credit hours and define full time enrollment as 12 or more credit hours.
Amount: The Student Financial Aid Office may adjust your financial aid—including Pell Grants, institutional aid, and state or federal programs—based on your enrollment level as of the financial aid freeze date. This date is one day after the last day to receive a tuition refund for the full-term. In summer, your freeze date is based on the latest class in which you attend at least one day.
Renewal Requirements: Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), complete a FAFSA each year and qualify based on the FAFSA results.
Additional Options for Federal Pell Grant Recipients: Pell grants are applied as financial aid toward the charges for your semester balance. There is an option for Wintermester (as part of Spring), Minimester (as part of Summer) to receive an advance of Pell Grant funds to cover books if you are enrolled for these parts of term. Requests may be submitted here.
The student must be a Federal Pell grant recipient and (for a full-time award) must have filed the FAFSA by May 1 and completed all verification requirements.
Students who were under 24 years old or enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of their parent or guardian's death as a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan while serving as a member of the U.S. armed forces after the events of 9/11.
Criteria for consideration is: Pell eligible; Parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer; student must be less than 24 years of age, and enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of their parent’s death. Subsequent eligibility requires the student to be an eligible student with a Pell-eligible SAI.
Students receiving federal grants are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
State Grants
State grant programs are available to residents of Texas (as defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) who qualify on a need basis as demonstrated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Currently, the only state grant program Baylor offers is the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG). Students must complete the FAFSA each academic year to be considered for this grant. Baylor awards TEG on a first-come, first-served basis. State residents who are noncitizens can complete the TASFA to be considered for TEG on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about College for All Texans.
Eligibility: Awarded to undergraduate students who are Texas residents and demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.
Amount: Varies, depending on the state allocation.
Renewal Requirements:
- Maintain full-time enrollment as defined below
- Undergraduate: 12 hours or more

Limitations: Students receiving athletic scholarships are not eligible to receive TEG. Undergraduates awarded an initial TEG on or after September 1, 2005 are not eligible for a TEG on the fifth anniversary of their initial TEG award.
To comply with Texas Family Code, students required to pay child support must self-disclose any arrearages exceeding 30 days. Delinquency may result in loss of eligibility for state-funded grants, including the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG). If notified by the State of Texas of delinquency, contact Baylor OneStop for next steps.
Loss of Aid policy: Baylor may award TEG to a student who did not meet the academic renewal requirements if we approve a Loss of Aid Appeal for the student. Learn more here.
