Baylor Financial Aid Policies for VA Students
Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill® Recipients
Baylor University supports veterans and their families in obtaining their college degrees as evidenced by the University’s proud participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Chapter 33 recipients will be reviewed for institutional financial aid eligibility based upon the following policies:
Chapter 33/100%/Yellow Ribbon
Recipients are eligible for Baylor University merit-based scholarships. These scholarships reduce the applicable net tuition and fees certified to the VA. Baylor will make matching contributions under the Yellow Ribbon Program toward unmet tuition and fees each semester up to the maximum amount defined in the Yellow Ribbon Program Agreement. Recipients are not eligible for university or state need-based grants or scholarships administered through the financial aid office because Baylor, in conjunction with VA benefits, provides grant and scholarship aid that meets these students’ tuition and fees expenses. Recipients may be eligible for federal grants, loans and work-study if they meet all other requirements. In addition, recipients may be eligible for scholarships awarded by Baylor’s academic departments or entities outside of the university, not to exceed their cost of attendance.
Chapter 33/100%/non-Yellow Ribbon
Recipients are eligible for Baylor University merit-based scholarships. These scholarships reduce the applicable net tuition and fees certified to the VA. Recipients are not eligible for university or state need-based grants or scholarships administered through the financial aid office for any semester in which they elect to use Chapter 33 benefits. However, they are eligible for these awards during a semester in which they do not elect to use said benefits, even if benefit eligibility remains. Recipients may be eligible for federal grants, loans and work-study if they meet all other requirements. In addition, recipients may be eligible for scholarships awarded by Baylor’s academic departments or entities outside of the university, not to exceed their cost of attendance.
Chapter 33/less than 100%
Recipients are eligible for Baylor University merit-based scholarships. These scholarships reduce the applicable net tuition and fees certified to the VA. Recipients are eligible for need-based grants and scholarships administered through the financial aid office; however, the amounts are subject to review. Baylor reserves the right to reduce or cancel any university or state grant or scholarship that is in excess of those awarded to non-Chapter 33 students. Recipients may be eligible for federal grants, loans and work-study, if they meet all other requirements. In addition, recipients may be eligible for scholarships awarded by Baylor’s academic departments or entities outside of the university, not to exceed their cost of attendance.
Additional Considerations
If students do not elect to use VA benefits in a given semester, they are eligible for their normal financial aid offer (e.g., NBSCHU, TEG). Further, recipients are eligible for other university scholarships awarded in addition to the financial aid policy, not to exceed their cost of attendance.
For students whose benefit eligibility ends mid-term, Baylor will review eligibility using the same methodology for those who receive less than 100%.
Chapter 31: Veteran Readiness and Employment Recipients
Baylor University supports veterans and their families in obtaining their college degrees as evidenced by the university’s proud participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program. We will review Chapter 31 recipients for institutional financial aid eligibility based upon the following policies:
